Horizon

July 11 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Relive some of the best funk, soul, and R&B music from the ‘70s and ‘80s in a high-energy show from the horn-infused band, Horizon.

n 1973, Ralph Treccia (Trombone) and Bob Kuntz (Sax) met while performing in the Jazz Band at the University of Illinois. Soon after, the rock band Horizon was formed. Steeped in the tradition of Chicago’s “brass-rock” scene made famous by bands such as The Ides of March and Chicago, Horizon featured songs with solid horn riffs and put a unique horn-infused spin on other popular rock tunes.

If you attended live music events during the 70s and 80s, you most likely saw Horizon, as the band performed all over the Midwest, playing clubs, corporate events, Greek dances and high school proms. The band performed every year at the annual U of I Dance-a-Thon, and occasionally played backup for national touring groups including Tower of Power and Three Dog Night.

…. in 2019, the band reformed to once again pursue their love of music. Ralph and Bob first called on original Horizon band members Dave Schiesl (Trumpet) and Mike Marnul (Drums).

The band then rounded out the line-up with seasoned musicians Tom Witte (Guitar), Carl Johnson (Keyboards), Patrick Dziallo (Bass) and Ray Balkcomm (Lead Vocals). This blending of musical talent makes Horizon an experience you won’t want to miss.

Horizon is once again playing their distinctive brand of R&B, Soul, Funk and Rock all over Chicagoland. The band invites you to see them at a venue soon to hear some of your old favorites and some songs that are bound to be your new favorites. Come out and dance, or just sit back and listen and groove to the sound as they perform their music, which their fans call a “Powerful Sound with Soul!”
